Manchester United defender John O’Shea has been sent back to his club to avoid further damage to his calf.

Republic of Ireland boss Giovanni Trapattoni has allowed the 28-year-old, who played in Saturday night’s World Cup victory in Cyprus, to return to Manchester for scans on a calf problem.
