Relegation battle ends in draw

Drogheda United 2 Sligo Rovers 2

Drogheda United 2 Sligo Rovers 2

A late Scot Gibb goal earned Drogheda a point, though it’s a result that neither these relegation threatened sides would have wanted.

James Chambers fired Drogheda in front from a 21st minute penalty after Robbie Martin was felled by Martin Camano.

Sligo levelled seven minutes later. Brian Cash delivered a good cross from the right and Danny Ventre fied home.

Owen Morrison put Sligo in front on 65 minutes, drillling home from the edge of the area after good work by Raff Cretaro.

But fullback Gibb was Drogheda’s unlikely hero when earning their point with a crisply struck drive to the net on 82 minutes.
