Derry morale low ahead of Galway United match

Off-the-pitch financial problems are likely to grab all the headlines ahead of Derry City’s clash with Galway United at the Brandywell tonight (kick-off 7.45pm).

Off-the-pitch financial problems are likely to grab all the headlines ahead of Derry City’s clash with Galway United at the Brandywell tonight (kick-off 7.45pm).

The City players will only receive 25% of their wages this month, and as a result, several players are set to leave the club this week.

Mark McChrystal has already departed after his contract was terminated by mutual consent.

Kevin Deery, Sammy Morrow, Tam McManus, Ger O’Brien and Tommy Stewart have all been linked with moves to Scotland or to Irish League clubs.

Ciaran Martyn (groin) and Steven Gray (back) will also be missing tonight’s clash through injury.

City boss Stephen Kenny said: “We've showed good spirit in winning our last three league encounters and we want that to continue against Galway at the Brandywell.

“Galway have good players and I'm sure that it will be a keenly contested affair.”

United travel to the Brandywell with a strong squad and no injury worries to contend with.

However, centre-half Shane Guthrie will not travel as he misses out through suspension following his straight red card against Shamrock Rovers on Friday night.
