England goalkeeper David James was not involved in Portsmouth’s Barclays Premier League clash against Manchester City at Fratton Park.

James has been suffering from a knee injury but has also been linked with a move away from Pompey, with Sunderland and Tottenham reported to be interested. Asmir Begovic started between the posts.

Elsewhere, Tommy Smith and Michael Brown made their Pompey debuts after signing this week but Kevin-Prince Boateng and Jamie O’Hara were not registered in time following their moves from Spurs.

New City centre-back Joleon Lescott made his first league start for the club since joining from Everton, while Craig Bellamy replaced Robinho from the side that defeated Crystal Palace in midweek.
