Bayern reject Beckenbauer comments on Riberry

Bayern Munich have distanced themselves from comments made by club president Franz Beckenbauer about star player Franck Riberry.

Real Madrid have been chasing the 26-year-old all summer, but the German club have insisted that he is not for sale.

Beckenbauer was quoted in the German press yesterday as claiming that Riberry "doesn't give a damn" about Bayern and only joined them to make a name for himself.

However, the Bayern board issued a statement today saying the player had always behaved "professionally, correctly and seriously".

The statement said he had "always given himself and his abilities to the service of the team".
