Dundalk ease past Mervue

Early goals from Ger Rowe and Shaun Kelly took the sting out of First Division Mervue at Terryland Park as Dundalk eased through to the fourth round.

Rowe collected Tiernan Mulvenna’s cross to shoot past Eoin Martin after just three minutes.

Kelly added to Dundalk’s lead six minutes later when getting clear to shoot past Martin.

Mervue made a fight of it when David Goldbey got a goal back on 64 minutes, rounding two defenders to score.

But veteran striker Declan O’Brien nipped Mervue’s revival in the bud with Dundalk’s third, killer goal on 80 minutes.
