Fitzgerald still missing for Galway
Galway United v Drogheda United
Galway United must plan once again without Shane Fitzgerald for tonight’s clash with Drogheda United at Terryland Park, kick-off 7.45pm.
The former UCD midfielder is ruled out with an ankle injury, while Alan Murphy is also carrying an ankle injury and will also miss out.
Striker Vinny Faherty will spearhead the United attack if he passes a fitness test.
And United CEO Nick Leeson has appealed for supporters to take advantage of the buzz about Galway this weekend to come out and support the team.
With thousands turning out to follow the Volvo Ocean Race for the past fortnight in the city, Leeson has appealed for fans to get behind them in this vital clash.
“There has been a great buzz in Galway for the past couple of weeks and we are asking people to get behind our side in this important match,” said Leeson.
Alan Mathews’ Drogheda travel west with a couple of injury concerns as Steve Williams and Robbie Martin are both carrying knee injuries.
Mathews said: “We’re just looking ahead to the next game. Galway will provide tough opposition but we are confident going into the match.
“The players are working very hard and have performed very well over recent weeks. We were very unlucky to lose to Bohemians, we fully deserved our draw against Rovers and we deserved to beat Cork.
“We have the same squad for this match as we did for Tuesday’s game against Cork. We’ll have a look at Steve and Robbie but both players should be okay to play.”
