Talks were continuing this morning between Sunderland and Steve Bruce as the two parties looked to thrash out the finer details of his appointment as manager.

The Wigan boss broke off from a holiday in Portugal to discuss terms with club officials after the Black Cats yesterday agreed to pay compensation to the Latics.
