Beckham 'more underhand' than Keane, says Effenberg
Former Bayern Munich midfielder Stefan Effenberg has today said that David Beckham was not as fair on the field as his former Manchester United team-mate Roy Keane.
Beckham and Effenberg locked horns in the Champions League final in 1999 â a game Keane missed through suspension â when United netted twice at the death to defeat Bayern.
Talking in the Bild newspaper, Effenberg was asked about his duels with the former England captain.
âYes, there were (duels),â said Effenberg. âAlso with Roy Keane. But Beckham was the more underhand of the pair. Roy Keane was hard and fair. He came from in front, knocked you away, everything was wonderful.
âBut Beckham always came from behind, in the Achilles, I didnât like that.
âYou didnât see him, and suddenly he clobbered you from behind in the tendon. No, Beckham was underhand.â
