Tax bill will be resolved, says Cork City chairman

Cork City FC chairman Tom Coughlan insists he will clear the club’s €200,000 plus tax bill with the Revenue Commissioners by the end of the week.

The league leaders could be wound up by the tax man next Monday, May 25 if the bill is not settled.

It is believed the bill relates to unpaid PAYE and PSRI on players’ wages as well as monies owed to the Revenue from the €150,000 the club received in prize money for winning the Setanta Cup in November.

Coughlan was a guest of RTÉ's Monday Night Soccer show last evening and he took the opportunity to allay Cork City fans fears.

“I am very confident that they will have a team to support,” Tom Coughlan said.

“We are in negotiations with the Revenue. Obviously it’s confidential but we are confident those negotiations will be successful before the end of the week.

“We have made commitments and we’ve put a substantial amount of money into the club and we intend to continue doing that.”

Cork City had gate receipts of €45,000 for the visit of Derry City and they can expect an even bigger cash flow for the visit of league champions Bohemians to Turner’s Cross on Friday week.
