Doni not interested in City move

Roma goalkeeper Doni insists he wants to remain at the Stadio Olimpico, seemingly putting an end to Manchester City’s hopes of snapping him up in the summer.

Reports suggest the Premier League side have already sounded out the Giallorossi about Doni and are preparing a €14m bid for the 29-year-old, who arrived on a free transfer in 2005.

Roma would find it hard to resist such a hefty sum should they fail to achieve a top-four finish and a Champions League berth, but the Brazil keeper claims he wants to see out his contract in the Italian capital.

“Beyond whatever other considerations, what I want to say is that I have no intention of leaving Roma,” he told Corriere dello Sport. “My family is very happy in Rome, as I am in the city and the team.

“It has never crossed my mind to ask the club for a transfer. I signed a contract last year, the expiry date was fixed for June 2012, why on earth should I leave?

“Moreover, I really don’t know anything about these rumours of an offer from Manchester City.

“And, above all, as far as I’m concerned, I reply categorically that I want to remain at Roma, I’m happy to remain here.”
