Davenport destined for Black Cats

Sunderland boss Ricky Sbragia was closing in on a new defensive recruit after West Ham’s Calum Davenport headed north today.

It is understood the 26-year-old central defender was undergoing a medical on Wearside this afternoon as the transfer window entered its final few hours.

A successful completion of the move would see Bedford-born Davenport link up with former Hammers team-mate Anton Ferdinand at the Stadium of Light.
