Heskey could make rapid return

England striker Emile Heskey could be back in action for Wigan sooner than expected.

It was feared he faced a lengthy absence after pulling up with a hamstring injury in the victory

against Bolton last Sunday.

However a scan has revealed no serious damage and he could return against Tottenham in the Barclays Premier League a week on Sunday.

Before then the teams meet in an FA Cup third-round tie on Friday at White Hart Lane.

Apart from Heskey, goalkeeper Chris Kirkland will sit out the cup match because of a groin problem, while Lee Cattermole is suspended.

Manager Steve Bruce said: “I am hopeful Emile will be okay for the following weekend.”
