Sunderland striker Michael Chopra is battling against an ankle injury to be fit for Saturday’s FA Cup third-round clash with Bolton.

The 25-year-old returned from his loan spell at Cardiff earlier this week with the problem, and manager Ricky Sbragia has admitted he is a doubt for the game.

Chopra scored five times in 11 appearances for the Bluebirds during his two months back in South Wales.

He has been joined back on Wearside by fellow frontman Roy O’Donovan after his loan spell at Dundee United.

The Irishman had not played since the middle of last month after failing to win back his place following suspension.

Goalkeeper Trevor Carson has also returned from his season-long loan at Chesterfield as Sbragia assesses his options ahead of the transfer window.
