Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson is satisfied with his side’s position in the table as they head into the new year full of confidence.

Last night’s 1-0 victory over a battling Middlesbrough at Old Trafford closed the gap on Barclays Premier League leaders Liverpool to seven points with two matches in hand.
