Moyes drafted in Leighton Baines and Daniel Gosling as he looked for a seventh away win of the season, against a Boro side still smarting from their dismal 3-0 reversal at Fulham.

Gary O’Neil returned from injury for the home side for the first time in four games, while Andrew Taylor and Mido also came back. Defender David Wheater had to settle for a place on the bench.
