FAI impose five-match ban on Dempsey

The FAI has imposed a five-match ban on St Patrick’s Athletic player Gary Dempsey following his admission that he placed a €20 bet on Galway United to beat his side, doubled with another English club bet.

This sanction was imposed under Rule 100 of the FAI Rules which prohibits any player from betting on any match or competition in which he or she participates. Officials however noted mitigating factors including the fact that Dempsey freely admitted placing the bet, financial sanctions already imposed by St Pat's, and the relatively minor sum involved.
