Rooney goal separates sides in Manchester derby

Wayne Rooney tapped Manchester United into a deserved half-time lead against neighbours City at Eastlands.

The visitors dominated but Mark Hughes’ men had come closest to scoring through Stephen Ireland when Michael Carrick fired goalwards three minutes from the break.

Joe Hart made the save but Rooney was on hand to finish off the rebound, his first goal for a month.
