Robinho targets World Player gong

Manchester City star Robinho has revealed he aims to be in the running for the World Player of the Year award in future editions.

The £32.5m Brazilian star has settled well to life in the Barclays Premier League, scoring seven goals since his arrival on transfer deadline day, and has lofty ambitions for both himself and his new team.

Robinho did not make the shortlist for this year’s award, which Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo is favourite to lift, but the 24-year-old hopes to be competing with his cross-town rival for the title soon.

“My objective is to be the best in the world, without a doubt,” he said. “I hope that in the next few years I can compete in the trophy for the best player in the world.”
