FAI to support City’s European bid

The FAI will lend their support to Cork City in their bid to get back into European football next year.

The FAI will lend their support to Cork City in their bid to get back into European football next year.

“When a club is in examiner ship they usually get a three year European ban, but if Cork do qualify and get a top four finish then that’s something we would have to explore,” said a leading FAI source.

“It’s only supposition at the moment but if Cork do make it then they can be assured of the full support and backing of the FAI.

“It would be unfair on the club not to get to play in the UEFA Cup if they make it.”

“Cork have been through enough in terms of examinership, their financial situation and the fact that previous owners Arkaga left them in the lurch, as far as the football association is concerned, if they qualify for Europe then they will get to play in the UEFA Cup.”

Cork play St Pat’s at Inchicore tomorrow night (7.45pm), meet Sligo Rovers in Cork on Friday night and end their campaign away to champions Bohemians on Friday, November 14.
