Cup win provides redemption for Cork
Cork City 2 Glentoran 1
Liam Kearney won the Setanta Sports Cup for Cork City tonight as they came from behind to give their troubled season a massive lift.
Unbeaten Irish League leaders Glens had the perfect start with the lead goal from a 12th minute free-kick.
Cork will argue that skipper Dan Murray was harshly penalised by referee Ian Stokes as Glens' striker Michael Halliday backed into him.
Insult was added to injury when Daryl Fordyce rolled the free-kick to right-back Kyle Neill who drilled his shot home.
Murray redeemed himself with Cork's equaliser on 57 minutes when poking home Danny Murphy's corner at the back post.
Winger Kearney then won it 15 minutes from time when following up to shoot home after Lawrie Dudfield had missed a good opening.
The victory earns Cork €150,000 of much-needed cash and secures their place in next season's competition.
