Galway gave their survival hopes a boost as they finished with ten men in a rollercoaster of a match.

Jay O'Shea celebrated his call up to the Ireland under-21s with a stunning goal on seven minutes to give Galway the lead.

The exciting midfielder skipped past two tackles before firing home, low and hard, past Mick Devine.

But Cork hit back on 20 minutes when Tim Kiely shot past Gary Rogers.

Galway regained the lead on 42 minutes when O'Shea's cross was laid off by John Russell for Ciaran Foley to shoot past Devine.

O'Shea then made it 3-1 from a 67th minute penalty before Jonathan Keane was sent off.

Lawrie Dudfield pulled another goal back for Cork on 87 minutes to set up a grandstand finish, but Galway held firm for a big win to lift themselves off the foot of the table.
