Internazionale have denied that coach Jose Mourinho is being paid €11mn a year.

During yesterday's press conference ahead of the Champions League clash against Werder Bremen, Mourinho said his salary at Inter "is not nine (million euro), but 11 and with the sponsorship deal it goes up to 14".

But a statement made by the clubtoday read: "Internazionale wants to point out that those remarks were jokes between the coach and a journalist.

"Inter and Jose Mourinho want to clarify that none of the figures mentioned yesterday during the press conference correspond to the contract signed between the coach and the club, which is evidently much less."

The former Chelsea manager signed a three-year contract with the Italian champions this summer and is reportedly the highest-paid coach in Serie A.

However, the club never made Mourinho's salary official.
