Berg inspires Groningen to top of the table
Two goals from Marcus Berg helped FC Groningen claim a 3-1 win over 10-man Feyenoord and take their place at the top of the Eredivisie.
The 10th-minute dismissal of Kevin Hofland did not help Feyenoord’s cause with Sepp De Roover opening the scoring for Groningen 11 minutes later.
Berg then made it 2-0 with nine minutes on the clock and, although Andre Bahia reduced arrears, the Swedish striker popped up again in the dying seconds to make sure of the points.
Ajax stretched their unbeaten run to three matches with a 3-0 victory over winless Vitesse Arnhem courtesy of goals from Luis Suarez (61) and Jan Vertonghen (76 and 82).
They are now sixth in the table, level on points with ADO Den Haag who battled out a goalless draw with FC Utrecht.
Elsewhere, NEC Nijmegen drew 1-1 with Heracles Almelo, while Sparta and Roda JC drew 2-2 in Rotterdam and are still waiting for their first wins of the season.
