Ballack on bench for Chelsea

Chelsea midfielder Michael Ballack is on the bench for the Champions League clash against Bordeaux at Stamford Bridge after missing two games with a foot injury.

Luiz Felipe Scolari has selected the same starting XI that defeated Manchester City at the weekend, with Florent Malouda and Joe Cole supporting lone striker Nicolas Anelka.

Bordeaux coach Laurent Blanc, who like Scolari was making his debut in Europe’s elite competition, has ex-Liverpool midfielder Alou Diarra in his team.

Blanc, the former Manchester United defender, has also selected Souleymane Diawara, who was relegated with Charlton earlier in his career.
