Three groups show intent in saving Cork City

Kieran McCarthy, the Cork City FC examiner, has received at least three letters of intent to take back to the High Court on October 7.

It emerged this morning that the three potential new investors in the football club had lodged official papers in the form of a letter of intent and a deposit with the examiner in the run-up to the midnight deadline last night.

A local consortium, headed up by engineer and hotel owner Tom Coughlan, is still involved, as are the Mick Mulcahy-Gerald Kean group and the six-man consortium run by Limerick businessman Danny Drew.

The letters of intent now go to the Revenue Commissioners and onto the FAI at Abbotstown before going to the High Court for a final hearing on October 7.

Meanwhile, Cork City will be missing the suspended Mick Devine and the injured Cillian Lordan and Pat Sullivan for this weekend’s derby clash with Cobh Ramblers at St Colman’s Park.

Devine is out with a one-match ban so Mark McNulty will continue in goal, while Lordan (knee ligaments) and Pat Sullivan (torn ankle ligament) are both sidelined too.

Cobh have skipper and right-back Alan Carey suspended and on-loan midfielder Colin O’Brien is unable to play against his old club.

City’s biggest doubt centres on striker Denis Behan who sat out last night’s 1-1 Setanta Cup draw at Drogheda.
