Johnson has recovered from the thigh injury which has delayed his first appearance but Bobby Zamora, recruited for £6m from West Ham, faces a late check on a knee strain before manager Roy Hodgson knows if he can pair up his new strike force for the first time.

There will also be a late decision on Danish international Leon Andreasen, who picked up a groin injury in his country’s shock 3-2 away win over Portugal in their World Cup qualifier in Lisbon.

Team (from): Schwarzer, Pantsil, Stoor, Hughes, Hangeland, Konchesky, Kallio, Davies, Murphy, Bullard, Gera, Johnson, Zamora, Seol, Nevland, Zuberbuhler, Teymourian, Dempsey, Andreasen, Baird, Milsom, Gray.
