Galway came from a goal down to blow Athlone away at Terryalnd Park to ease into the quarter-finals of the FAI Ford Cup.

Having put out another Premier side in Finn Harps in the last round, Athlone didn't lack confidence as they took a fifth minute lead.

Eric Lavine was fouled by John Lester and Joey Maloney's free-kick was bundled home by defender Robbie Hamm.

Lester redeemed himself on 33 minutes to equalise when heading home Ciaran Foley's right wing cross.

And another header from skipper and fellow central defender, John Fitzgerald, put Galway in front four minutes later.

Dane Jesper Jorgensen sealed Galway's passage on 59 minute with a third goal before man-of-the-match Jay O'Shea added the fourth two minutes from time.
