Fixture congestion eases for City
Manchester City have won a mini-battle to ease their fixture congestion.
After being told they must enter the Carling Cup at the second round stage, despite qualifying for Europe through the Fair Play League, City have been told by the Football League that they can play the fixture a month later than scheduled.
It means Mark Hughes’ side will be in action during the week commencing September 22, the date set aside for the third round, ensuring they do not have to play four games in eight days as had appeared to be the case.
