Contrasting fortunes for Everton and Arsenal in friendlies
Striker Andrew Johnson completed 90 minutes on his return from a groin injury as Everton lost 4-2 to Cambridge United this afternoon.
England forward Johnson appeared to suffer no ill-effects while midfielder Mikel Arteta enjoyed 15 minutes on his return.
Youngster Lukas Jutkiewicz scored both Everton’s goals but David Moyes’ side are still looking for their first win of pre-season as an Andrew Parkinson double and goals from Robbie Wilmott and Mark Beesley secured the win for the home side.
A young Arsenal side featuring summer recruit Aaron Ramsey in his first start beat Barnet 2-1 at Underhill.
Ramsey was joined by first-term regulars Manuel Almunia, Gael Clichy, Justin Hoyte, Bacary Sagna, Denilson, Theo Walcott and Nicklas Bendtner.
Barnet had led at the break through Kenny Gillet’s surprise opener.
However, Jay Simpson and Dutch youngster Nacer Barazite both scored in the second half to turn the game in the Gunners’ favour.
