Blackburn fans will not be heralding the second coming of former striker Alan Shearer after he revealed he rejected the chance to be considered as the club’s next manager.

Shearer, a fan favourite at Ewood Park during his time at Rovers, has previously declined to pursue roles within the England and Newcastle coaching set-ups and last night admitted he had ruled himself out of the race to succeed Mark Hughes.
