Neville: 'Ronaldo at the right club'

Manchester United defender Gary Neville is convinced Cristiano Ronaldo is at the “right club” and will shun a move to Real Madrid.

The Portugal winger, currently on duty with his country at Euro 2008, was quoted earlier this week claiming he would welcome a move to the Bernabeu.

And his refusal since the end of the season to emphatically pledge his future to the Red Devils has led many to believe that a move to Spain could be imminent.

But Ronaldo’s team-mate and club captain Neville fails to see why he would want to quit Old Trafford.

“He knows he’s at the right club,” Neville told ITV1 when asked whether he thought the winger would head to La Liga.

“The adulation he receives, everything he would want is there.

“The manager’s made his position clear, so I don’t see a problem with that.”

On Thursday, Ronaldo told Brazilian website Terra “I would like to play for Real Madrid”, but Neville remains dubious over the validity of that widely-reported quote.

“These things always happen when players are away on international duty and are from obscure sources,” the England right-back said.

“He’s focused completely on doing well for Portugal.

“Anything he does say will be taken out of context, so he can’t win.”
