Fingal provide cup shock

Sporting Fingal caused the shock of the FAI Ford Cup third round with a 2-0 win over dispirited Premier Division strugglers Cobh Ramblers at Morton Stadium.

Peter Hynes was First Division Sporting's hero with both goals on 57 and 75 minutes.

Title-chasing St. Patrick's Athletic had to battle hard to beat First Division Longford Town 2-1 at Richmond Park.

Gary O'Neill shot St. Pat's in front on 41 minutes. But Town levelled through striker Darren McKenna, who'd had stitches in a head cut during the first half, on 64 minutes.

But Town fell asleep and conceded what proved the winner within a minute when Mark Quigley volleyed to the net.

Adam Hughes scored twice in the first half as Drogheda United eased to a 3-0 win at non-league Douglas Hall. Shaun Maher added the third goal on 50 minutes, his first for the club.

Derek O'Brien scored the only goal of the game as bottom of the Premier Division Galway United beat First Division Waterford United at Terryland Park.
