Former England midfielder Paul Gascoigne was released from hospital today after being sectioned under the British Mental Health Act.

Gascoigne was sectioned yesterday after approaching a member of the public in an agitated state in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire.

A Hertfordshire Police spokeswoman said: “The man is no longer sectioned. Police believe he is no longer in hospital care.”

It was the second time the troubled former Tottenham, Lazio and Rangers player has been sectioned this year.
