Sullivan and Gamble return in time for Rovers clash
Following a comprehensive win over Bray Wanderers on Friday night, Cork City take on Shamrock Rovers at Turner’s Cross tonight, kick-off 7.45pm.
Pat Sullivan took a knock to his ankle in the win over Bray, but he is expected to be fit, while midfielder Joe Gamble returns to the squad having served the second game of a two-game ban.
Gareth Farrelly has an illness and will miss tonight's visit of the Hoops.
City boss Alan Mathews said: “The visit of Shamrock Rovers to Cork is always a big game and one which is eagerly anticipated by all involved.
"We met Rovers at Tolka Park earlier in the season in what was a close encounter, and they come to Cork with a strong squad.
“I was very pleased with the win in Bray. We produced a good performance to come away with the three points, and we know that if we play to our potential that we are capable of beating anyone in this league.”
Barry Ferguson joins Shamrock Rovers’ lengthy injury list but may be fit in time to play against City.
Dessie Baker (thigh), Eric McGill (knee), Chris Mulhall (cartilage), John Martin (hip), Robbie Creevy (ankle) and Pat Flynn (ankle) are all out, while Darren Stapleton (thigh) and Danny O’Connor (ankle) face late fitness tests.
Hoops boss Pat Scully said: “Barry hurt his neck against Drogheda last Friday and might be available for Cork, but Danny and Darren have only an outside chance of being fit enough to play.”
