More injury worries for Rovers

Shamrock Rovers take on Drogheda United in tonight’s eircom League of Ireland Premier Division clash at Tolka Park, kick-off 8.00pm.

Rovers beat United in the opening game of the season and need a win to get them out of their recent string of poor results.

Dessie Baker, Danny O'Connor and Eric McGill have all joined Shamrock Rovers’ lengthening injury list.

Chris Mulhall (cartilage), Darren Stapleton (thigh), John Martin (hip), Robbie Creevy (ankle) and Pat Flynn (ankle/suspended) remain sidelined, bringing the total of injured Hoops to eight.

Rovers boss Pat Scully said: "Dessie Baker suffered a thigh strain before last week's game against Finn Harps.

"Meanwhile Danny O'Connor has an ankle ligament strain.

"Danny's suspended this week and would've missed the Drogheda game anyway, and then Eric McGill has a knee problem. But this at least gives a chance to other players in the squad."

Drogheda will be without captain Declan O'Brien who suffered a knee injury last week.

He is expected to return to training next week, while Shane Barrett and keeper Dan Connor are also missing through injury.

Doolin said: "Rovers beat us in the opening game of the season, but we're playing a lot better now than we were back then.

“At the start of the season, I don't feel we were really playing well at all, but in the last 5 or so games, I think our play has been excellent.

"We're only 9 points behind with 66 to play for, so we're by no means out of it, but I don't think we can afford to be dropping points just now."
