Ireland U-17s lose against Switzerland
Republic of Ireland U-17 0 Switzerland U-17 1
An own goal saw Ireland's involvement at the UEFA Under-17 Championships in Turkey virtually come to an end.
If France defeat Spain later this evening then the team (Ireland) will have been eliminated with a game still to play.
With captain Conor Clifford playing despite a stomach bug and fellow midfielder Gearoid Morrissey forced off with injury after just eight minutes, Ireland never really got going, failing to seriously pressurise the Swiss goal until late on.
The only goal came on 49 minutes. Swiss midfielder Steven Ukoh floated a diagonal free-kick into the area and Ireland left-back Gavin Gunning, who was at fault for France's winner in the first game, sliced the ball into his own net.
The Swiss almost scored a second goal deep into stopopage time when substitute Xherdan Shaqiri shaved the outside of a post.
Darragh Satelle had a last-gasp chance for Ireland but shot over the bar from Paul Murphy's right wing cross.
Ireland now meet Spain in the final game on Saturday with only pride to play for.
