Cobh blitz Shamrock Rovers
Cobh Ramblers 2 Shamrock Rovers 0
Goals from Kieran O'Reilly and skipper Kevin Murray blitzed Shamrock Rovers at St. Colman's Park to earn Cobh their first win of the season and lift them out of the bottom three.
The game finally sprung to life after the interval following a dour opening 45 minutes.
Cobh had a shout for a penalty waved away by referee Dave McKeon on the hour mark when Davin O'Neill went down under the arm of Ger O'Brien. Two minutes later Ramblers were deservedly in front.
John Meade did well down the left to cross and O'Reilly was brave in diving in to shoot the ball home.
Graham Cummins, who fired wide, and O'Reilly, who brought a good save from Rovers' keeper Barry Murphy, came close before Ramblers got their killer second goal on 74 minutes.
As in Sligo last week, it stemmed from a well-worked free-kick with Cummins helping on Alan Kearney's delivery for Murray to head home his third goal of the season.
