Drogs take on manager-less United

Champions Drogheda take on managerless Galway United at United Park this evening, kick-off 7.45pm.

United are already playing catch-up and will be looking to capitalise on Galway's circumstances to get their campaign up and running.

Centre-hald Jason Gavin is set to start his first match of the season although Ibrahima Iyane Thiam will miss tonight's game following last week's red card.

Shane Barrett is also back in action but will not be risked by boss Paul Doolin just yet.

United have been unfortunate with injuries, both this season and last, and Doolin said: "The injuries probably affected us last year but we managed to get through it.

"We’ve a few players due back soon. Dan Connor is moving well, he’s doing a lot of weights, but we have to wait for him to see the specialist in England.

"Shaun Maher had an injection in his achilles and he’s still probably a few weeks off. Declan (O’Brien) is in full training but hasn’t played any football in nearly a year. We don’t want to rush him."

John Lester is suspended for Galway while Stephen O’Flynn is still ruled out with a groin injury.

Derek Glynn has a knee injury and Daryl Robson has ankle trouble and both will miss out tonight.

Jay O'Shea, Wesley Charles and Alan Keane must undergo a fitness test ahead of tonight's game.

The good news for caretaker manager Billy Clery is that John Fitzgerald returns from suspension although he is still carrying a knock which may sideline him.
