Ex-skipper and coached axed at Gretna

Former Gretna captain Chris Innes has been made redundant by adminstrators and the club’s community coaches have also been dismissed.

A statement from administrators Wilson Field, who are now running the crisis-hit Clydesdale Bank Premier League club, is expected this afternoon.

Defender Innes, 31, told BBC Sport: “I got a call from the administrator to say that I was no longer of service to the club.

“I’ve had three and a bit fantastic years at Gretna, but now I’ll have to look for pastures new.”

Gretna have closed down their community coaching operation, with coaches Kevin Somerville, Darren Edmondson, Paul Menlove, Ross Murray, David Bradbury and Kenni Dinnell all axed.

In a statement, Gretna said: “It is with regret that the club announce the conclusion of community football activities.”
