Derry win see-saw encounter

UCD 2 Derry City 3

Veteran Peter Hutton scored two minutes from time to earn Derry a win they scarcely deserved at the UCD Bowl tonight.

In a rollercoaster match, Derry raced into a 2-0 lead within 24 minutes.

Ruaidhri Higgins opened the scoring from a glorious free-kick on 20 minutes with Mark Farren doubling the lead with a side-footer from Steven Gray's cross.

UCD fought back however with Paul Byrne heading a goal back from Brian King's cross on 36 minutes.

Skipper Conor Kenna then levelled the match seven minutes into the second half when his shot deflected to the net off Byrne.

Captain Hutton broke College hearts two minutes from time however, stabbing home Higgins' free-kick in from the left.
