Cork City kick off their league campaign at Turner’s Cross tonight as they entertain Eddie Gormley’s Bray Wanderers, kick-off 7.45pm.

City boss Alan Mathews has virtually a full squad to choose from, with new signing Pat Sullivan the only certain absentee due to suspension.

Mathews said: "I am delighted to be getting the season underway.

"I hope that we will have a big crowd at Turner’s Cross. We got off to a good start in the Setanta Sports Cup against Dungannon last week, and we will be looking to get our league campaign off to an equally good start tomorrow night."

New Bray signings, central defenders Kevin Doherty and Derek Foran are doubts for Gormley as they are both struggling with hamstring injuries.

Gormley said: "I was happy with our pre-season, everything went well but you can't read anything into it, the real business starts on Friday night.

"Everyone is happy, there is a real buzz in the squad and we are all looking to the start of the season."

He added: "Our realistic goal this season would be to secure a mid-table position, as that would be progress for us.

"We are still in the early days of rebuilding at the Carlisle and we have signed some quality players in the off season."
