Flood of bets sees odds on Trapattoni appointment plummet

Irish bookmaker Paddy Power has today reported a flood of money on Giovanni Trapattoni becoming the next Republic of Ireland manager.

The former Juventus manager is now just 1/33 on, with the firm, having been a popular favourite since late January.

One Paddy Power customer looks like he was ahead of the game and stands to land £22,650 after placing a £150 bet at odds of 150/1 on January 28.

Just 24 hours later, the Italian's odds had plummeted to 4/7 after a wave of money on his appointment.

"After more false starts than a Skoda the race for next Ireland manager looks to finally be over," said Paddy Power.

"We've had 13 favourites since Staunton departed over 100 days ago, but none of them have reached the realms of Trapattoni's short odds - the betting suggests the FAI has finally got its man."
