Liverpool defender Daniel Agger has suffered a recurrence of the metatarsal injury which has kept him sidelined since September.

Specialists have yet to confirm how long the Dane will now be out of action but manager Rafael Benitez doesn’t expect Agger to feature this month.

Benitez told Liverpoolfc.tv: “He felt something in training, so we need to go back and start from the beginning.

“It’s not easy to say when he will be back. He is going to see different surgeons and then we will be able to analyse the situation.”

Meanwhile, Jamie Carragher will captain Liverpool on his 500th appearance for the club in the FA Cup replay against Luton at Anfield tomorrow.

Provisional squad: Reina, Arbeloa, Finnan, Carragher, Hyypia, Riise, Pennant, Gerrard, Alonso, Mascherano, Babel, Lucas, Voronin, Kuyt, Torres, Crouch, Benayoun, Kewell, Skrtel, Itandje, Aurelio.
