Butt signs new deal

Newcastle midfielder Nicky Butt has committed his future to the club after signing a one-year contract extension.

The 32-year-old has agreed a new 12-month deal which will keep him at St James’ Park until the end of next season with the option of another year.

Butt has become a key figure under new manager Sam Allardyce, as he was under his predecessor Glenn Roeder, after Graeme Souness sent him out on a season’s loan to Birmingham.

The England international, who joined the Magpies in a £2.5m move from Manchester United during the summer of 2004, has made 93 appearances for the club and scored three goals.
