Referee cleared of football violence charge

A football referee was cleared today of being involved in violent clashes before a Champions League match between Manchester United and AS Roma last season.

A district judge sitting in Manchester ruled that Brendan Doherty, of Thruxton Drive, Northampton, England, had no case to answer.
