Wigan boss Bruce signs Black as assistant manager

New Wigan boss Steve Bruce has made his first signing since officially taking over on Monday by bringing in Eric Black as his assistant manager.

The pair worked together at Birmingham and Black was always expected to join the former Manchester United defender at the JJB Stadium.

His arrival was held up while the Blues sorted out their own managerial appointment but Black quit St Andrews on Tuesday just prior to former Scotland coach Alex McLeish being appointed manager.

Black spent his first day with his new club today and Bruce is looking forward to them re-establishing their successful partnership.

“The most important person is your right-hand man,” said Bruce.
