Boro beat Rangers in low-key friendly

Middlesbrough gave outings to defenders Robert Huth and Emmanuel Pogatetz as they beat Rangers 2-0 in a behind-closed-doors friendly in Glasgow today.

Huth is on the comeback trail after an ankle problem, while Pogatetz is fit again after knee surgery.

They both played for 90 minutes at Murray Park, Rangers’ training headquarters.

The Teessiders took on a strong Rangers side which featured strikers Daniel Cousin and Jean-Claude Darcheville and £2m midfielder Kevin Thomson.

The English side won thanks to first-half goals from 19-year-olds Seb Hines and Herold Goulon.

Rangers lost Spanish forward Nacho Novo to an early injury, but assistant manager Ally McCoist insisted the game was worthwhile.

McCoist told www.rangers.co.uk: “We’re very disappointed about the goals obviously, I thought they were down to a couple of individual errors, but overall I think it’s been a great exercise, I’m really pleased.”
