Savage setback for Rovers

Blackburn midfielder Robbie Savage has undergone knee surgery and has been ruled out of action for between five and six weeks.

Savage is Rovers’ only new injury for tomorrow’s Carling Cup fourth round tie at Portsmouth after he limped out of Sunday’s Premier League win at Tottenham.

Manager Mark Hughes will rotate his squad for tomorrow’s Fratton Park clash with match against Liverpool and Manchester United on the horizon.

The game comes too soon for both Steven Reid and Jason Roberts, although the former is continuing to build up his match fitness.

Provisional squad: Friedel, Enckelman, Nelsen, Samba, Ooijer, Warnock, Bentley, Dunn, Pedersen, Santa Cruz, McCarthy, Derbyshire, Tugay, Mokoena, Rigters, Khizanishvili, Olsson, Brown.
