Martin goal seals UCD fate as Longford win

UCD 0 Longford Town 1

Robbie Martin returned to Belfield to put his former club out of the FAI Ford Cup with the only goal of the second semi-final.

Bottom of the Premier Division Longford now meet Cork City in the final - the midlanders' fourth in seven years - at the RDS on December 2.

Both sides had chances before Longford stole what proved the only goal of the game against the run of play on 39 minutes.

Jamie Duffy deserves much of the credit as he cleverly worked the ball in from the right to set-up Martin whose low, curling shot squeezed into the bottom right-hand corner of Darren Quigley's net.

UCD responded and almost levelled within two minutes.

Fran Moran put Patrick McWalter in on goal, and though his chip beat Shay Kelly, Town skipper and Man-of-the-Match Damien Brennan got back to hack the ball off the line.
